Original styling. Key visual details are the black-backed external rear-view mirrors, slightly recessed headlamps, stainless steel bumper bars with moulded plastic end caps and multi-spoke alloy wheels.

Late 1981 – mid 1982
Variations on a styling theme: key external visual changes are bright finish, reshaped external rear-view mirrors and black facing trim on the stainless steel bumper bars.

1982 – 1985
Series 2 Restyle. Key external visual changes: flush, reshaped headlamps following the contour of the bonnet, new polycarbonate bumber bars with greater wrap around, front spoiler/air dam, new style unpainted alloy wheels with new centre caps. The final 1985 Australian 3500 SE also had front bumper overriders, side rubbing strips and painted alloy wheels.

Key external visual differences: flush, reshaped headlamps following the contour of the bonnet, new polycarbonate bumper bars with greater wrap around and including front overriders incorporating the headlamp washer jets, front spoiler/air dam, new style painted alloy wheels with new centre caps, side rubbing strips, electric sun roof.
